INTRODUCTION The performance of an enterprise is considerably affected by its location The degree of significance for the selection of location for any enterprise mainly depends on its size and nature. Sometimes the nature of the product itself suggests some suitable location like a small scale industry mainly selects the site where in accordance with its capacity the local market. for the product is available DEFINATION OF FACILITY LOCATION AND LAYOUT Facility location, also known as location analysis, is a branch of operations research concerning itself with mathematical modeling and solution of problems concerning optimal placement of facilities in order to minimize transportation costs, avoid placing hazardous materials near housing†¦show more content†¦DEFINATIONS OF PLANT LAYOUT A plant layout can be defined as follows: Plant layout refers to the arrangement of physical facilities such as machinery, equipment, furniture etc. with in the factory building in such a manner so as to have quickest flow of material at the lowest cost and with the least amount of handling in processing the product from the receipt of material to the shipment of the finished product. According to Riggs, â€Å"the overall objective of plant layout is to design a physical arrangement that most economically meets the required output – quantity and quality.† According to J. L. Zundi, â€Å"Plant layout ideally involves allocation of space and arrangement of equipment in such a manner that overall operating costs are minimized OBJECTIVES OF LAYOUT 1Economies in materials, facilitate manufacturing process and handling of semi-finished goods. 2.
